Sexual Astrology: Sex Tips and Toys for Your Star Sign

My interest in all things “woo woo” began young: my mom took me for my first tarot reading in middle school. Since then, my dedication to the woo has waxed and waned, and blended with my background in neuroscience, public health, and sexual health. I love the opportunity to combine these seemingly disparate interests, as I was able to at a recent event celebrating the launch of Bijoux Indiscrets’ Horoscope boxes.

These Zodiac-themed kits include: a gemstone necklace unique to your star sign, an orgasm-enhancing clitoral balm suited to your natural element, and a silicone vibrator. The event was held at Babeland: Soho, where sex educator Maggie schooled us on all things sexual astrology. Read on for my biggest tips and takeaways.

Astrology is a way to gain greater understanding of yourself

Astrology can help you think about and reflect on who you are, the things you want, and even the type of sex you want to have.

Maggie encouraged us to think about our birth charts as a poem. It’s a snapshot of where the planets were at the moment your were born (that’s why you need to know your time of birth and location, in addition to date). It’s believed that each planet influences a certain part of your personality, based on which sign is in that planet on your chart.

Your astrology isn’t set in stone—and neither are your sexual desires

It’s good to revisit your astrology regularly. The same is true for your sexual likes, dislikes, and desires. All of these things will change as you grow and your understanding of yourself and the world shifts.

Your sun sign tells you what you like and why

Each part of your birth chart gives you insight into some aspect of your personality. Your sun sign—which is based on your birth date and which you typically look up when reading your horoscope—focuses on what you like.

Sexual Astrology: Which toys to try based on your sun sign

Your sun sign is just one part of your chart, so if something there doesn’t feel like a good fit, take a look at which sign is in your Mars, the part of your chart that influences how you like to have sex.

(Whichever sex toys you choose, don’t forget to take care of them with a water-based lubricant and toy cleanser.)

Aries

Aries love to be in charge, in and out of the bedroom. Playing with power lets you either embrace this trait or get a break from being in charge (after-all, it’s common for take-charge women to like being submissive in bed).

Sex tool to try: Restraints to tie up your lover—or yourself.

Taurus

Tauruses loves all things sensual. You want a nice atmosphere, good food, and quality materials that feel yummy against your skin.

Sex tool to try: A silky blindfold. It feels amazing and heightens your other senses.

Gemini

Geminis are really curious and need variety. You love something one day, hate it the next, and have forgotten about it by the next week.

Sex tool to try: Sync. There are more than 10 different ways to use this versatile vibe. You’ll never get bored! Plus, the We-Connect app lets you create your own vibration patterns and connect with your lover no matter the distance.

Cancer

Cancers feel all their feels. You crave comfort and safety, and it isn’t uncommon to need to retreat into your shell when you need to recharge

Sex tool to try: Fin lets you—or your beau—get in touch with yourself in a whole new way.

Leo

Leos love the spotlight. If it’s bold, dramatic, or show-y, it’s got your name on it.

Sex tool to try: A harness makes you stand out and helps you highlight your favorite body parts.

Virgo

Virgos are practical and like things done in a particular way. You’re careful and methodical, and value cleanliness. You plan things out and follow that plan through.

Sex tool to try: Ola, a vibrator that lets you be in complete control the entire time. It responds to your touch: the harder you squeeze, the more it vibrates.

Libra

Libras like pretty things. You’re easy going, and you value elegance and beauty.

Sex tool to try: Iroha, gorgeous toys that just as easily double as a piece of modern art.

Scorpio

Scorpios are magnetic, alluring, and sexy. You’re game to try just about anything (if you haven’t already). You also have super deep emotions but don’t share easily or often.

Sex tool to try: Impact toys like floggers and paddles let you push boundaries, experiment with power and control, and slip into a sub-space (or guide your beau there). This one doubles as a dildo.

Sagittarius

Sagittariuses love to travel and experience new things. You value your independence and don’t want to be tied down or dependent on your partner for your pleasure.

Sex tool to try: Touch. Small enough to toss in your bag, quiet enough to use even with your beau sleeping next to you, and powerful enough for lots of pleasure.

Capricorn

Capricorns are practical AF. You work hard and appreciate others who do the same. You value quality and reliability.

Sex tool to try: A wand! With it’s big surface area and long reach, it’s easy to use. It also has a lot of power so you can enjoy your orgasm and get back to making your big dreams a reality. This one is my current fave since it’s also lightweight and quiet.

Aquarius

Aquariuses love anything taboo. You’re experimental and thrive on the unique and unexpected. You also love to talk.

Sex tool to try: A Yes/No/Maybe list. These lists of sex acts help you and your beau figure out what you want, what’s taboo, and talk about it.

Pisces

Pisces are easy going, love to connect with others, and are very in tune with their emotions and those of their partner(s).

Sex tool to try: A massage candle. Massages are an intimate way to connect and destress. These candles burn at a lower temperature than regular candles—think a hot bath, and their “wax” is actually massage oil.

Asking, “What’s your sign?” might not be that bad of a pickup line after all

Maggie concluded the event by saying, “Astrology can be a great tool to learn about yourself and help you think and reflect on who you are, the things you want, and the type of sex you want to have.” Sounds like a pretty good conversation to have with any beau, new or old.
